NEW DELHI: Decks have been cleared for the change of governors across six states, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Rajasthan, Punjab and Madhya Pradesh, as the government finalised three names, while the decision on three other names is expected soon.
According to sources, former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister K Rosaiah is set to takeover as Tamil Nadu Governor, whereas MOH Farooq from Jharkhand has been named for Kerala and former Andaman and Nicobar Islands Governor Vakkom Purushothaman is likely to be appointed as Mizoram governor.
Erstwhile executive heads of the states of Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh and Goa, namely Surjit Singh Barnala, Rameshwar Thakur and S S Sidhu respectively have completed their terms, necessitating the change.
Punjab governor Shivraj Patil has been holding additional charge of Rajasthan since the demise of Prabha Rau.
The five-year term of Mizoram Governor Lt. Gen. M M Lakhera (Retd), appointed in July 2006, is soon coming to an end, while that of Andhra’s E S L Narasimhan comes to a close next year.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Tejendra Khanna, who has still has a few months left to complete his term, could be shifted to another state as Governor.
